Hawaiian Electric is dedicated to increasing the use of clean energy in Hawaii and reducing our dependence on imported oil. Our goal is to reach 100% renewable energy by 2045. It was the only coal-fired power plant in the state and provides approximately 16% of Oahu's electrical power during peak demand. Since March we have been contacting communities on the island to provide them with up-to-date information on current and future renewable Energy projects on the island of Hawaii. Hawaiian Electric and The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have identified locations on The islands with The right technical conditions for future renewable resources.
